E komo mai - Welcome to Aloha Body Flow
WHAT WE OFFER
A profound healing journey rooted in Aloha
At Aloha Body Flow (Formerly Shiny Ka Huna Bodywork) , sessions draw from the heart of two beautifully complementary Hawaiian healing practices — Spiritual Hawaiian Lomilomi and KaHuna massage - Hawaiian Bodywork. Together they create a space where your body, mind, and spirit are held with deep care and unconditional love.
By weaving the yin softness of Lomilomi — its long, flowing strokes, pule (non-religious prayer), and spiritual attunement — with the energising yang quality of KaHuna, each session finds its own rhythm, shaped entirely around what you need.
"Lomilomi tends to be more YIN and KaHuna tends to be more YANG — both in the way they are given, and their intentions."
— Charlie Snow, Institute of Living Aloha

Your session, your way
Before and during your session, your practitioner will listen to you and your body
— intuitively sensing which quality of touch you need in each moment, moving fluidly between the softness of Lomilomi and the enlivening flow of KaHuna.
You are always welcome to simply request a preference or share what feels right for you.
What is KaHuna massage?
KaHuna massage is a flowing, temple-style transformational Hawaiian bodywork. Using hands, forearms and elbows in fluid, dance-like movements, the practitioner moves around the table in continuous flowing strokes from head to toe, creating a deeply healing and balancing experience for body, mind and soul.
"KaHuna massage is a flowing style of massage, providing a holistic approach to healing by balancing the body-mind in its physical, emotional and spiritual dimensions."
— Mette Sorensen, High Spirits Retreat
KaHuna is deeply yang in its quality — enlivening, invigorating, and expansive. Long-held tension that is physical, emotional, or energetic is invited to move and release, leaving many people feeling lighter, clearer, and more themselves.
What is Spiritual Hawaiian Lomilomi Massage?
Lomilomi is far more than a massage technique. Rooted in the understanding that everything is connected, it works across the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual dimensions of a person.
"Traditionally massage was a part of everyday life… there was a deep understanding that we need to malama (take care of) our bodies — as well as our spirit, the land, each other, our families and communities."
— Charlie Snow, "What is the difference between Lomilomi, Heartworks Lomilomi and KaHuna massage?"
Central to Lomilomi is pule — prayer and intention-setting — which opens and holds the space of each session. The strokes are long and flowing, moving across the whole body in continuous waves, releasing physical tension alongside emotional holding, always guided by aloha (unconditional love).
How do they work together?
Both traditions share Hawaiian roots, a whole-body approach, and the foundational intention of aloha. The distinction is one of energy — and together they create something greater than either alone:
Lomilomi · Yin
Soft, receptive, inward.
Opens the body gently.
Nurtures, softens, and invites deep emotional release.
Rooted in pule (non-religious prayer) and spiritual lineage.
Aligning
body, minds
and spirit with Aloha
KaHuna · Yang
Flowing, enlivening, expansive.
Energises and uplifts.
Temple-style movements in a flowing dance around the table
— leaving you lighter, brighter, and more alive.
"Both styles aim to work on the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual 'bodies' — and they both have the understanding that they need to be given from a place of aloha."
— Charlie Snow, Institute of Living Aloha

THE SPACE
A warm oasis in the heart of Northcote
Step through the door and feel the world outside begin to soften. The studio is a cosy, intimate sanctuary — warm underfoot with plush carpet, the air carrying a gentle scent, and the room lit in the amber glow of a Himalayan salt lamp that fills the space with a sense of calm before the session even begins.
A rattan peacock chair sits in the corner alongside lush green plants, a dreamcatcher hanging quietly by the window, and the massage table draped in rich, vibrant fabric — a small chalkboard welcoming you with a simple word: Aloha. During your session, the lighting dims further, gentle music plays softly, and the room becomes entirely yours.
It is a space created with intention — personal, earthy, and deeply Hawaiian in spirit. A genuine oasis to step away from the pace of daily life and come home to yourself.

ABOUT ME
Shinichi — practitioner, fellow traveller

Aloha — I'm Shinichi, originally from Japan and living in Australia since 2014. My path into bodywork began not in a training room, but on a massage table: a single KaHuna session that left me feeling energised, uplifted, and like the world had somehow grown brighter. That shift was real and unmistakable, and I needed to understand it more deeply.
Before stepping into this work, I spent years practising as an Occupational Therapist in Japan. That background gave me a thorough grounding in anatomy and body mechanics, and — just as importantly — a deep commitment to respectful, inclusive, person-centred care. I bring that same attentiveness to every session.
I also hold Hawaiian philosophy and Zen principles close to my practice. Both traditions centre on interconnectedness, mindfulness, and living in harmony with nature — values that shape how I show up at the table, and inform the sense of wholeness I hope each person carries away with them.
Mahalo Nui ( gratitude ) for reading through and I look forward to connecting with you!
A NOTE ON THE NAME
Shiny Ka Huna Bodywork
Aloha Body Flow
This practice began as
Shiny Ka Huna Bodywork — a name that reflected my roots in KaHuna massage and the energy shift that first drew me to Hawaiian bodywork.
In 2026, after deepening my training in Spiritual Hawaiian Lomilomi with Charlie Snow at the Institute of Living Aloha, I felt the practice had grown into something richer: a genuine blending of two traditions.
The new name, Aloha Body Flow, honours that evolution — Aloha at its heart, and the flow of both Lomilomi and KaHuna woven together. The spirit remains the same; the stream has simply grown wider.
Training & journey
2023, 2024
KaHuna Bodywork Training
Trained with Mette's Institute at High Spirits Retreat in the Noosa Hinterland, Queensland — an immersive residential course led by founder Mette Sorensen, who has trained bodyworkers since 1994. This is where my journey as a practitioner began.
Shiny Ka Huna Bodywork opens — Thornbury
Opened my practice in Thornbury, Melbourne —
a dedicated space to share this transformative Hawaiian bodywork with the local community.
Spiritual Hawaiian Lomilomi Training
Completed training with Charlie Snow at the Institute of Living Aloha — a school rooted in genuine Hawaiian lineage, teaching with permission from Hawaiian Kūpuna (Elders) and Kūmu (teachers). This deepened my understanding of pule (prayer), Hawaiian culture, and the spiritual layers of healing touch.
Aloha Body Flow — Northcote
Relaunching at 299 High Street, Northcote, under a new name that reflects the natural evolution of the practice — KaHuna and Lomilomi flowing together as one.
